Objectives and Expected Results
The overarching goal of the CONSIDER project is to bring forward industrial heritage sites as part of a wider social landscape merged with skills and local memory, and study its potential as a key element of urban and regional development strategies, abiding with European Parliamentary Assembly report (Dervoz, 2013). Furthermore, to explore inclusive governance and participatory models as a tool to better integrate industrial heritage within society through a comprehensive inventory which will lead to innovative sustainable management models for industrial heritage sites. Through identifying key values attributed to industrial heritage in various countries, by different stakeholders, heritage communities and expert groups, this project will reflect the global, regional, national and local significance of IHS for sustainable development.
Objective 1: To expand on what is considered as industrial heritage (machinery, buildings and landscapes) and their memories and how to safeguard what is kept through an effective and sustainable management mechanism. This objective will be achieved by investigating the conservation and management models based on cultural heritage valorisation specific to industrial heritage in order to identify conservation criteria and attributes of industrial heritage specific to different sectors.
Objective 2: To investigate the history of sites (buildings, people, technology, knowhow) aiming to identify the most influential factors used to maximise the benefits from IHS and its social inclusiveness. This objective will be achieved by developing an online inventory on the industrial sites of partner cities, including the analyses of factors among those all interested stakeholders thus imposing social inclusiveness of IHS.
Objective 3: To explore inclusive governance and participatory models as a tool to better integrate industrial heritage with the society, going beyond the usual expert-centred approaches leading to evidencebased research. This objective will be achieved by conducting a comprehensive inventory of the inclusive governance and participatory models for industrial heritage while exchanging information and learning from experiences between these models.
Objective 4: To mobilise knowledge and research on industrial heritage aiming to contribute to an innovative Europe by developing novel and improved sustainable management model. This objective will be achieved through successful implementation of the training and networking activities
in order to enhance the integration of this comprehensive inventory of the inclusive governance and participatory models for industrial heritage in Europe.
